The series “The Hunting Ground” begins with an eerie and mysterious atmosphere from the very beginning. Nima Javidi, who previously showed with films like “Red Skin” how she can engage the audience with silence, lighting, and space, this time goes to a closed and militarized world that is narrated in the context of a cursed hunting ground.
The series quickly manages to engage the audience’s mind, not only because of its mysterious atmosphere, but also because of its different type of narrative.
In this role, Parastoi has created a character who is torn between military authority and his own mental obsessions. His presence on stage, with his heavy gaze and calculated dialogues, makes the atmosphere of the series heavy and predictable, but not in a negative way.
The soundtrack greatly contributes to the sense of suspense. The use of heavily reverberated string instruments, along with natural sound effects such as the sound of the wind or the rustling of leaves in the hunting area, makes the viewer feel like they are in the middle of that environment.
